5 Creative Activities To Do With Your Au Pair Kid!
Hey Au Pairs!
Being an au pair means you spend a lot of time engaging in playtime with your host kid! Playing the same games over and over again can get old quick! My host kid was obsessed with dinosaurs and instead of always playing with his toy dinosaurs, I created a list of different activities to do together and it was a hit! These are activities my host kid and I loved doing and I’m sure your kids will as well!
Here are 5 creative activities to do with your host kids:
1. Create Toilet Paper Roll Crafts
Creating crafts out of toilet paper rolls is such an easy and cost free activity to do! I was amazed by how many interesting creations my host kid and I were able to make together! We would make toilet paper roll crafts at least once a week. In the end we were able to create butterflies, octopuses, binoculars, and fish! Here is a useful guide to help get you started.
2. Paint Stones Together
Something I loved doing with my host kid was searching for stones at the park that we could later paint and then place around town for others to find. We would paint designs on the stones to turn the stones into dinosaurs, monsters and ladybugs. The first time my host kid and I did this activity together he was literally shaking from excitement! He expressed how thrilled he was to be able to paint together and it was a nice change of pace from the usual games we’d play.
3. Make Playdough
Kids love getting their hands dirty and making a mess so why not try making edible playdough? There are many edible playdough recipes, so choose the one you think is the tastiest! Every step of the playdough making process is fun and your host will love being able to help make the playdough and they’ll be even happier to know that they can eat it up after they finish playing!
4. Skip Stones Together
My host kid and I would frequent a park that was situated alongside a beautiful river. The path leading towards the river was always full of stones, which my my host kid loved placing in his bucket! After we’d fill up his bucket we’d sit by the river and skip stones. Sometimes a ferry or boats would cruise on by and I loved watching his face light up with joy as he gazed upon them. Some of my favorite memories are the moments we’d spend by the river doing this together!
5. Take Trips To The Bakery
I have to admit I have a bit of a sweet tooth and so did my host kid! He loved chocolate and so do I, so at least once a week we’d take a trip to the bakery in town and order a treat! Luckily, my host parents had a petty cash jar that I was able to use to pay for these baked goods! I would always grab a pain au chocolat and my host kid loved the chocolate eclairs.
