1.Affordable City Life

As mentioned before in my reasons you should au pair in Spain article, Spain is so affordable! Wine is unbelievably inexpensive and in most cases served with an appetizer called a tapa for free! The monthly transport pass (which includes both bus and metro) for young people (25 and younger) costs 20 euros a month for unlimited rides all over Madrid! Imagine how far your au pair pocket money can go in a city where life is this economical!

2.Free Museums and Galleries

Most museums and galleries in the city of Madrid are free for people 25 and younger! If they aren’t free they usually offer some sort of discount on certain days of the week! This means you take your transport pass and explore all of the museums and art galleries in Madrid in your free time.

3.Parks Galore

I was surprised to discover how green Madrid is for a city. Madrid has numerous parks all around the city. From the regal royal gardens of Campo del Moro, full of exotic trees and animals including peacocks to the Retiro park, (formerly reserved for solely the pleasure of the Spanish monarchy) one of the largest parks of Madrid which contains a lake where you can even go for a relaxing boat ride. Madrid actually sports 40 unique parks. There’s a park for everyone!

4.Transport Hotspot

If you’re one for traveling, Madrid is the place to be! There’s an international airport in Madrid which can take you anywhere you dream of visiting, and don’t worry there are always low budget airlines to help you save a pretty penny. Additionally, there are always countless buses and trains traveling across Spain and into other countries.

5.Cosmopolitan City

People from all over Spain and the world move to Madrid to work and study. Erasmus, (a student exchange program) is very active in Madrid making it possible to meet other young people through their events, because of this I’ve been able to meet people from all over the world. Just last night I had dinner with people from France, Brazil, Singapore and the country of Georgia!
