5 Cafés and Bars You NEED To Visit In Madrid
Hey Au Pairs!
One of the perks to au pairing in Madrid is the café and bar culture! Café and bar hopping can be a fun and inexpensive way to discover your new host city. No one café and bar is alike; each one has its own distinct personality which makes it even more exciting! There’s a café for everyone! After several months living in Madrid I’ve composed a list of my favorite cafes/bars!
In no specific order here are 5 of the best cafés and bars in Madrid:
1.Little Big Café
If you’re a fan of aesthetically pleasing cafes with an ambience of vintage sweetness this is the place for you! Little Big Café is a charming little café in the Moncloa district of Madrid within a 10 minute walking distance of the Moncloa station. Their menu offers an array of drinks ranging from coke to tea and coffee they also serve the most delightful cake, brownies, cinnamon rolls and cookies! They even have vegan goodies on the menu! I recommend trying the chocolate cake and cheesecake!
2.Ruda Café
A warm and inviting café in the La Latina district of Madrid is Ruda café. Although tiny in size, it’s an excellent place to grab a quick coffee and catch up with a friend! They also serve many sweets and baked goods for customers. They also offer to-go options in case it’s ever reached full occupancy indoors!
3.Salvador Bachiller
If you’re a fan of nature, stylish boutiques and terraces this is the café for you! Salvador Bachiller is what I consider to be a secret café (although not so secret to the locals) with two floors of store front where they sell delicate and vintage accessories and clothing items and three levels of cafés including the top terrace which envelops you in an oasis of greenery where you can stop for a quick drink and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Their terrace level offers space heaters during the colder times of the year. If you’re a fan of brunch Salvador Bachiller also offers brunch, which I recommend making a reservation for in advance.
4.Cuevas El Secreto
For a night out I suggest visiting Cuevas El Secreto, a bar located in the city center of Madrid in the district of Sol. I especially advise checking out this bar during their Happy Hour from 6PM-8PM during which you can benefit from their special two drinks for one drink price, which includes both alcoholic or nonalcoholic beverages. This bar serves you a tapa (appetizer) along with your drink and even offers dinner options. This bar has two locations right across from each other but operates as one bar, ensuring there will always be somewhere to sit!
5.Chocolatería Valor
When in Madrid one must grab churros (a fried dough pastry) and chocolate! One of the best places to do so is Valor! This chain café specializes in serving delicious churros and rich, warm chocolate to dip your churro into! Whenever I have a visitor from out of town I make sure to grab a plate of churros and chocolate to share. In the café they also sell their own Valor chocolate bars, pastries, other drinks and even sandwiches.
